Good quality tangerines will be firm to slightly soft, heavy for their size and pebbly-skinned. They are deep orange in colour, and do not have pips.
History
The name comes from the fruit, which was a traditional gift to the Mandarins of China. In France it is regarded as a safe children’s remedy for indigestion, hic coughs etc, and also for the elderly since it helps strengthen the digestive function and liver. Tangerines are also a good source of vitamin C.
