This evergreen woody shrub grows to around a meter in height, has green narrow leaves with violet-blue flowers and is highly aromatic.
History
Lavender has been used extensively in herbalism for many years. The essential oil has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, known to relieve toothache, neuralgia, rheumatism among many other ailments. It has been used as an insect repellant and was used in hospitals during the first world war to disinfect floors and walls.
