Hyssop essential oil has a sweet camphoraceous top note with a warm, spicy herbaceous undertone. It is principally used for the respiratory system and digestive complaints, and externally for bruises, sores and inflammation. It can also be used as a calming oil and is good for people suffering from anxiety or stress.

This shrub grows to about 60cm in height and is very attractive to bees. It has a woody hairy stem, small oblong-shaped green leaves and purple-blue flowers.

History

In ancient times Hyssopus Officinalis had a medical reputation and was used principally for digestive and respiratory complaints, but also used to treat rheumatism, earache, toothache, influenza and colds, while helping wounds and sores heal. It was also used for purifying sacred places.
