History
One of the earliest plants to be used for food and medicines. The Romans, Egyptians, Hebrews and Greeks considered this herb as sacred and even in the Middle Ages it was used to ward off evils spirits and used as a protection against the plague and infectious illness. It was also burnt in French hospitals during epidemics.
