Making your own Face Masks

Over the years, the demand for healthier, more vibrant, younger looking skin has driven the big cosmetic companies to continually launch new skincare products; which may deliver on their promises to a degree – but are bursting with synthetic and chemical-based ingredients. Not a great long term plan. Therefore, as the desire for kinder ingredients increases we once again look to nature for its pure, unprocessed, true healing ability.

Face Masks, albeit not an essential part of your daily skincare routine; can be hugely beneficial once or twice a week. By re-hydrating, removing excess oil, increasing firmness, unblocking pores, healing problem areas and generally improving the skins vibrancy and appearance.

Mineral Clay Powders are the ashes found below the earth’s surface near volcanoes. They are pure, natural minerals which have huge detoxifying and healing benefits to the skin.

They can be mixed with Carrier Oils or Hydrolats/Flower Waters to make a deep cleansing mask or an exfoliating scrub, added to home-made soaps or used dry on wounds or areas needing healing.

Here’s how to create your own Face Masks …

Combination/Oily skin – Create a bespoke Face Mask using Green Mineral Powder Clay with Tea Tree Hydrolat. Mix the powder with just a few ml of Tea Tree Hydrolat until you get a thick, mud-like consistency. Apply to the face; either the whole face or just the oily areas if combination, and sit for 15-20 minutes while it works its magic. This will clear the pores and dry up the excess oil leaving behind a nourished, smooth skin. For an extra touch of anti-septic help add 1 drop of Tea Tree and 1 drop of Lavender to help kill bacteria and reduce inflammation.

Dry/Mature skin – To help rehydrate dry/mature skin mix the Red Mineral Clay with a few ml of Rosehip Carrier Oil to create a thick, mud-like consistency and apply. Note: this mask will not set hard like a water based mask. After 15-20 minutes this mask will smooth the skin leaving it plumper, supple and nourished. For extra nourishment a drop of Patchouli in the mix will help repair skin cells.

Sensitive skin – If you’re prone to redness or irritability due to products, medication or lifestyle you can calm your skin with a blend of White Mineral Powder Clay mixed with Lavender Hydrolat. Mix to the consistency required and apply. The redness will be reduced and the skin left calm and cleansed after just 15-20 minutes. No essential oils necessary but just 1 drop of Chamomile Roman will help to calm the skin.

Normal skin – if you’re lucky enough to have a blemish free, hydrated, vibrant complexion then you would assume attention need not be paid……? Wrong. The skin is the bodies’ largest organ and our first line of defence, so it needs to be maintained. The skin acts like a giant sponge absorbing air pollutants, which can lead to cell damage and premature aging. Treat your skin to a deep cleanse with a Mineral Clay Face Mask using the Yellow Mineral Clay and Orange Flower Water. Mix to the desired consistency and apply. Once a week will keep your otherwise perfect skin clean and replenished.
