Autumn Aromatherapy Tips

Autumn Aromatherapy Tips

Well, it’s officially the start of autumn. Even though the leaves are yet to turn brown and fall and the cold chill to creep in, the shorter days and colder weather will soon be here.

Before it all happens why not take on board some helpful hints on how aromatherapy can help during this changing season.

Skin
Reduce the possibility of the cold wind and rain drying out your skin and leaving it sore and  chapped.

Jojoba Golden Oil is an anti-inflammatory oil which is great for balancing the skins natural sebum production. High in essential Fatty Acids this glorious oil will add vital nourishment to the skin whilst maintaining moisture levels to help protect it from the elements. Can be used daily as part of your skincare routine.

Avocado Oil is a rich emollient and is known for penetrating the deeper layers of the skin. Ideal for use on the body, this oil is renowned for its skin healing properties. Ideally blended at 20% ratio into a lighter Carrier Oil such as Sweet Almond or Peach Kernel it is great as an all over body serum.

There are also a  handful of core Essential Oils which can be added to your choice of Carrier Oil to further enhance their skin nourishing properties. When it comes to protective skincare; particularly for dry or sensitive skin types, Geranium-Rose is a rejuvenating and hydrating oil for even the most vulnerable complexion, when combined with a little Palmarosa which tones and balances, and a touch of the healing benefits of Frankincense – the blend becomes a powerful synergy to help combat cold weather conditions. When blended with your favourite Carrier Oil this blend provides a valuable facial serum which can be used daily.

Lips
Don’t forget about your lips. Our make your own Lip Balm Starter Kit contains everything you need to create a bespoke nourishing lip treatment. Featuring both Beeswax and Jojoba oil, the Beeswax locks in moisture and protects the lips from the elements, whilst the Jojoba deeply moisturises. For an added twist why not try adding a touch of Geranium to your balm blend for a fabulous fragrance with skin softening properties.

Rejuvenate, Stimulate & Invigorate
Whether you’ve been active or thoroughly relaxed over the summer months, an invigorating kick-start will be just what the doctor ordered. If you’re feeling a little sluggish or maybe lacking in motivation why not try a bath using one of these suggested blends.

Blend 1: 2 drops of each oil – Sweet Marjoram to deeply soothe tired aching muscles, Geranium-Rose to bring emotional stability and Rosemary to clear mental fog.

Blend 2: 2 drops of Black Pepper and 2 drops off Mandarin. Ideal to warm the joints, ease mental stress and will you leave you feeling re-energised.

It’s also worth mentioning the obvious – a good night’s sleep. A drop of Lavender and Chamomile Roman on your pillow will help ease you into a deeper snooze, or a bath with these two wonderful oils before bedtime will also have the same effect.

Hair
As the season gets into full swing your hair may start to look and feel dry, lifeless or just wind-swept. The change in climate, or change in treatment can cause the sebaceous glands not to function properly which inhibits the supply of natural oils to the hair, thus resulting in more splitting, tangling and breakage. As well as harsh heat treatments; another factor which can lead the hair to dry out immensely is chlorine, either from swimming or if your water at home is highly chlorinated. Myrrh Essential Oil will help to stimulate under-active sebum glands, whilst Rosemary accelerates the oil production and growth. A touch of Geranium will also help strengthen and balance the hair. Add 1 drop of each oil to your base shampoo and use regularly. A weekly treatment of warm Olive Oil will also penetrate down to the roots, smooth the cuticle and keep the hair looking and feeling silkier. If you are worried about a build up of Chlorine or product on the hair then use a base clarifying Shampoo with just 4 drops of Lemon or Tea Tree prior to further treatment – this will clean the hair thoroughly and get you back to luscious glossy locks in no time.
